I bet you guys thought I gave up already, didn't you?
I didn't... but I haven't gotten around to the wedding dress very much. Life has been hectic lately. Those of you that don't know me personally, I have a fulltime career in addition to this (that has kept me insanely busy the last couple weeks) I have one teenager, a little girl who just turned three and an almost 2-year-old as well as three dogs... Life is crazy and since my dress is white, I don't trust myself (my kids and pets, actually) around the white dress. I'd be so sad if something happened to it so I try to stick to doing it when I can get away in my bedroom. So... I did get to it a couple weeks ago and I completed one whole cup of the bust and now I must remember what I did (because of course I didn't take any notes) to complete the other side. On a TMI note, I wasn’t really sure how big to make the cup size as I’m still comfort nursing my littlest, but I thought it would be best to make them to fit the size I am now and if I get much smaller after it’ll be my decision maker on whether to pad the cups.
Funny story on this… my husband has been totally on board and excited about this dress and I’ve been discussing plans with him all along the way but just the other day after I finished the cup, I was discussing how I wanted it to look, and he said “let me see a picture of this dress” (because patterns of course usually have final product pictures) “babe…” I said, "there isn’t one. I can show you pieces of stitches but the dress doesn’t exist so there are no pictures” He got so excited about this thought that for the next day and a half I was spammed with wedding dress and crochet dress ideas with his input on how the dress should look.
He's also told me that I can teach him to be my finisher (weaving in ends and sewing pieces up) because let me tell you, that is the absolute worst part of crocheting. I still have a sweater that I “finished” that still need the ends woven in so I can actually wear it. It’s literally the bane of my crochet existence.
But back to the task at hand, the cup, the one lonely cup I have completed. Because I of course did not take notes, my next task will be copying the other side exactly and actually taking notes so I can get a full pattern out of this effort. After that I’ll be trying to figure out how I want the rest of the bodice to go. I’m not sure if I want it to be backless or to have the whole top constructed as a solid piece and how I want the cups to be pieced together in the front. I do know exactly what I want the straps to look like so I might skip ahead to that part and if you’ve got any ideas for the bodice let me know what you think!
